We’re looking for someone who can help us grow and maintain our data collection.

This is the perfect opportunity for anyone who is looking to explore a career in a new industry - software & data in the data and startup space. Lots of opportunities for growth in a fun, flexible, remote environment. We are growing and we want you to grow with us.

The ideal candidate needs to be a motivated self-starter, a team player and have a keen interest in data, public information, & a curiosity to learn new skills.

While this job does require strong communication skills and comfort working on the phone making outbound calls, it is not a sales position.

The work

This position involves reaching out to local governments by phone, email, letter, and maybe even fax to help us collect public data. A keen eye for detail is appreciated, as is thoroughness.

The day to day process for this individual would involve working closely with the Geographic Data Manager to prioritize and contact counties and cities as part of Loveland's parcel workflow. You will explain the data we are looking for, identify the best sources, coordinate the data transfer, and follow up as needed. In addition, you will help evaluate data quality and assist with data QA.

Core skills we’re looking for:

  • Experience with professional written and verbal communication
  • Ability to personably, accurately, and persuasively communicate about technical subjects
  • An inquisitive mind and interest in working with data
  • Experience working with tabular data, for example spreadsheets (especially CSVs) and databases -- but you don’t need to be a data scientist or programmer.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to to manage many ongoing conversations.

Bonus points:

  • Familiarity with local US government structures, especially County and State governments, and the data available through them, especially parcel data
  • Familiarity with the basics of GIS, or a desire to learn. Maybe you’ve used QGIS, ogr2ogr, Mapbox, CartoDB, GeoJSON, or other geospatial tools and formats
  • Familiarity with GitHub, including GitHub workflow and commands
  • Familiarity with the Mac or Linux command line (ability to navigate directories, move and delete files, run commands)
  • Beginner knowledge of a programming language like Ruby, Python, or Javascript, and/or a desire to learn
  • Familiarity with basic SQL commands

In this job, we will ask you to:

  • Contact government staff with requests for data
  • Quickly evaluate data quality and decide if it meets our standards
  • Navigate potentially delicate conversations about public data with government entities to build trust
  • Use our internal tools to download records from government websites
  • Use our internal tools and standards to review processed data
  • Learn skills related to collecting and managing geodata

Goals

  • Grow the Loveland dataset by collecting data from around the country
  • Gain experience in core data science concepts, including data quality analysis and SQL
  • Learn & build skills in geospatial data & data cleaning
  • Support the data team by analyzing specific datasets

Rate & hours

This is a $20/hour remote contract position for 15-20 hours per week; 3-month extendable term ideally starting in April or May 2021.

Evolving, Expanding & Hiring!

By Sahana Murthy on March 31, 2021 · Announcements

Lovelanders,

Spring is here and vaccines are rolling out. This note is in a similar spirit of new beginnings, optimism, and enthusiasm for the future.

We are evolving.

The Loveland team has grown quite a bit over the last couple of years. We’ve evolved from a small shop based in Detroit to a leading nationwide property information provider with a talented team spread across the country and an awesome roster of customers who love our data and our service.

This summer we’re going to be making some big announcements, including a new brand name that will replace the Landgrid brand, and new nationwide datasets that compliment our parcel dataset.

Loveland Technologies will remain the parent brand and company, but we’re going to roll all of our services and communications into the new brand to focus on making it a household name. Loveland’s relationship to the new brand will be sort of like Alphabet’s relationship to Google — present, but mostly in the background.

What does this mean for our products & customers?

Nothing will change from a customer perspective except for access to new data and new services beyond what we already provide.

While parcel data remains our core, we are expanding beyond just land information into other kinds of property, boundary, and spatial information, which means more data options for you this year.

Announcement of the new brand and services will happen this summer.

We are hiring!

As you can tell from our recent announcements, we are constantly innovating and growing, which requires bringing more top talent onto the team. We are on the hunt for passionate & experienced individuals who will help us grow even further, service our customers even better, and execute on our exciting product roadmap.

If you have experience scaling high traffic software platforms and/or managing and automating large-scale datasets, send us a note and let’s talk. And stay tuned with our communications on our blog and social media, we will be releasing a series of job openings shortly.

Webinar & Customer Love

Wrapping up this note with an exciting webinar coming up soon on our recently launched standardized land use codes!  Don’t forget to save your spot to join us live - https://www.crowdcast.io/e/understanding-landgrids

These webinars give you a chance to hear from, meet, and interact with the team.

You can find our recorded webinars at https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLwSzIfVit8o40MBjqw3k-lJ2tByytq2BO

And lastly, when we say our customers love us, here’s some customer love about our parcel data from Transect LLC. We appreciate it and work hard for you:

More updates on product & job openings coming soon.

Happy Spring Y'all.

Happy Mapping!

Announcing - Nationwide Standardized Land-Use Codes

By Sahana Murthy on February 22, 2021 · Announcements

Lovelanders!

This February, we have a big update for you!

Announcing the launch of our nationwide standardized land-use codes as a premium feature in our product suite!

That’s right, in addition to high quality, standardized nationwide parcel data, we have put together highly contextual, standardized nationwide land use codes as part of our premium data package. These codes will help you get the nuanced context on land use for your projects.

From community and urban planning, to site selection, to understanding what activity is allowed on a particular piece of land, and to commercial real estate, the use cases are endless & Landgrid’s standardized use codes have you covered.

Data driven decisions and faster time to market for your projects!

Email us if you are interested in getting these codes as part of your data.

What do we mean by land-use codes, you ask???

We offer standardized land use information for 5 dimensions:
  1. Activity - describes the actual activity & use of the property.
  2.  Function - describes the broader economic or social use of the parcel.
  3. Structure - describes the type of structure & building on the parcel.
  4. Site - describes the physical characteristics of a site or land.
  5. Ownership - mainly describes if it's publicly or privately owned land.
You can find the descriptions of each one of our land use codes across all 5 dimensions here.

Why is this valuable?

There isn’t any one universal format for standardized land use codes. Because this data varies by the county, Landgrid’s nationwide standardized classification becomes a one stop-solution that makes it easy for anyone who works with our parcel data to make use of nuanced contextual land use information.

As a result, our parcel data is your one turn-key solution for all of your contextual property data needs.

How to get it?

All of our new customers can get our standardized land use code attributes as part of our premium data package along with our other premium derivative fields.

Premium fields include:

We have spent over a year working on improving our process to populate land use codes into our dataset.

Our current data & platform customers - you may have noticed the LBCS (Land based classification system) related columns in your dataset. As we populated this data, we made them available to our existing standard data customers, along with our Landgrid Pro, Team & Enterprise customers.

We've made sure that you will continue to get the LBCS columns as part of your current accounts & subscriptions with us and as long as you are a customer with us. Please don't hesitate to reach out to us if you have any questions.
All new data customers will be able to get the land use codes as part of our premium offering.

That was our February update. Please email us at parcels@landgrid.com if you are interested in our land use codes and we will get you a sample today.
Until next time, stay safe & warm.

Happy Mapping!
